Cushinstown 6km

Results are in for the Cushinstown AC 6km road race which took place on the lovely scenic hills around Pudden Hill and Ardcath. Well done to the host club on a great new race. It was great to get a fine evening for it too. There was a veritable feast for the runers when they returned to the race HQ. Put they well and truly earned it over the last 2km. In many ways this race brought back memories of the Garristown 10km. Well done to the Cushinstown club on their return to the road race scene. National 1500m champion Colin Costello form nearby Star of the Sea AC made light work of the familiar east Meath hills to take the top spot ahead of Robbie Matthews, dunshaughlin AC. There was the usual strenght in depth form Dunhsaughlin with Shane Boyle, Paddy Mangan, Ciaran Dwyer very prominent. Emilia Dan, Dunboyne was first of the women ahead of Na Fiannas Mary Hanley. Good turnout from the newly formed Duleek Athletic Club who were prominent in their new distinctive singlets. RESULTS HERE http://chipit.ie/admin/admin/editor.php?action=read&id=375

James McCabe at the World Juniors

James Mc Cabe Dunboyne Athletic Club's first ever athlete in the World Junior Champs in Barcelona threw a PB 69.49m in the Hammer 6kg competition today. James finished 18th out of 47 competitors. Going in he was ranked 37th. Only 6 other athletes threw a PB in the competition. James finished ahead of fellow Irish man Dempsey Mc Guigan ( 20th) and the two Brits Miller 25th and Painter 27th all of whom have better PBs! Many thanks to Brendan, Ronnie, Tony and all the Meath competition officials who helped James over the years in County, Leinster and National Champs. He could not have made it without your help along the way. Kind Regards John Holian

Costello Wins 1500m

This item is taken from the Star of the Sea FACEBOOK update by Brendan Meade. Congrats Colin on a great effort and victory Colin's winning margin was 2/100's of a second. By such tiny margins champions are made. Tactically he ran a great race keeping out of trouble and then when the pace moved up after 800m he kept a close rein on the leader McBearity (Letterkenny). With 250m to go Everard (KCH) moved passed Colin and he now tucked in behind the two leaders and as he came off the bend into the home straight he attacked. With Everard now in the lead Colin gradually closed the gap and as from the file below he just got passed Everard as they came to the finishing line. Well done - great to see him back on the podium. Brendan
